| WORKS GREAT, i'm running a mtx mxa 6001 amp, and one 12" mtx 7500 sub, with this headunit. Not only does the entire system sound amazing, but it made my stock speakers sound 100x better, MP3 cds are amazing. You'll be able to burn 6-7 cd's onto one mp3 cd. All options, menus, and controls, are sensible and easy to use. |

Before you take into T. Warren "thw420" reviews, take into account that he doesn't like just about everything he buys, which makes me wonder if he is the competition slamming other venders products.
I discard everything he reviews.
This Alpine unit is tops for a midpriced unti, and I have never had a problem with it. |

| We bought this unit to directly connect our iPod for play back. We installed it in a Honda CR-V with six standard speakers. The sound is great. It improved the sound in our original equipment speakers. I have no complaint about the sound. I am disappointed in the scrolling feature on the face plate. It is quite slow. We can not use the iPod to scroll. If we could scroll using the iPod, I would rate this unit much higher. The CD player works very well and improves the sound, too. The radio is excellent, too. Alpine needs to update the scrolling feature. |
Terrible iPod nano 1G Audiobook experience

I bought the system to play audible.com Audiobooks without having to burn many audio CDs for each new book.
This system skips ahead when I restart my car, so I am constantly having to "rewind" the Audiobook. In addition, I have to remember the minute count each time I turn off my car so that I can "rewind" as needed. Unfortunately, I was over 4 hours into my recent book and forgot to check on the minutes before turning off my car. I have no clue where I was in the book. Argh. I will be scanning through the Audiobook in iTunes to figure out where I was. Also, the iPod is often not recognized when I restart my car, so I have to disconnect then reconnect the iPod in order for the system to recognize my iPod.
I have done system resets. I have done iPod resets. I have installed iPod updates. I have had the the system serviced by an Alpine dealer. A new CDA-98-47 system skipped and did not reliably recognize my iPod nano either. Sigh.
BTW, this system also stinks for CDs with a lot of short tracks or a single long track. When I restart my car, the system often skips around and otherwise does not restart where the CD stopped when I shut off my car.
The funny thing is I looked at a new $[...] Alpine head unit that has a great display, etc. but it would also be lousy for Audiobooks. The first 5-6 seconds played after the system is turned on ramps up the sound, so the salesman and I could not hear what was being said. Sigh. |
